KINGDOM MEN ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2017
Kingdom Men Africa Network (KMEN), a Lagos, Nigeria-based ministry to men has called on governments at all levels, the church, the media, donor agencies and all other relevant bodies to embrace a "holistic from-the-root approach towards achieving gender equity and gender cooperation in Nigeria and globally.
Text of the Statement
Kingdom Men Africa Network (KMEN) joins Nigerians, and the international community, in congratulating women globally on the occasion of today's International Women's Day.
We note that the theme for this year's observance is "Be bold for Change" and acknowledge that women the world over need boldness to demand for and embrace change in every sphere of life. This covers the socio-cultural, economic and political space. In this connection, we acknowledge the wonderful work being done by many bodies, especially NGOs and para-church ministries locally and internationally.
As we stated in our statement during the last 16 Days of Activism on Gender-based Violence, the success of any pro-women action will depend largely on society's understanding of the truth that there is a 'male identity crisis". This manifests in men, women and society at large not understanding that men, like women, children and youths, have peculiar issues that require urgent and holistic attention. It is called "the Men Problem" and like every problem requires "the Men Solution". We are glad to state that ministries like ours have accepted the challenge.
In Nigeria, we note with delight the activities of Voices for Change (V4C), which has paid special attention to the place of men in the advocacy for change. They have commendably published a report titled "Being a Man in Nigeria" and worked extensively with men's ministries and groups, including KMEN. We look forward to continued cooperation and collaboration this year and beyond.
We urge governments at all levels, the church, the media, donor agencies and all other relevant bodies to take a cue from this holistic from-the-root approach towards achieving gender equity and cooperation in Nigeria and globally.
Change is desirable and it is possible; but it is not a strictly "women thing"; the masculine identity problem is at the root and the men solution will spring the trap'. Join us.

ANTI-VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN CAMPAIGN IS MISDIRECTED, SAYS KINGDOM MEN
Kingdom Men Africa Network, a Lagos, Nigeria-based ministry to men, has described
the global war against gender-based violence as misdirected and therefore needs
urgent rethink.
In a statement signed by the ministry’s Chief Vision Steward, Reverend
Remi Akano, commemorating this year’s
United Nations-initiated 16 Days
of Activism Against Violence Against Women, it says well-meaning as most of the
activities are, they are fighting the symptoms rather than the disease. Click for full text of Statement
According to Kingdom Men, “Years of engagement with the men-problem
globally has however taught (us) that the disease is not violence against women
or against anybody else for that matter; that is a symptom. It is as much a
symptom of the disease as are sexism, crime, fatherless babies, high divorce
rate or even poor public governance and corruption. The disease is male
identity crisis - exacerbated over time by zero or scant awareness of its
existence; neglect, and lack of or inadequate understanding of its ramification.”
The ministry, founded in December 2009, posits that all expenses have
been concentrated on cleaning the water downstream when upstream, at the
source, is where the problem flows from, which means that no matter how often
you clean downstream; the stream will never be clean.”
Quoting a Facebook post of one concerned young
lady, the ministry wrote: “…Who stands
for the men; Who teaches our young men to become responsible adults; Who prays
for the men; Who is ready to tell this men how to be a man, a father, a
brother, a friend; What standard is built for them to be the kings they were
originally created to be? Everyone is all about the woman folk, leaving the man
to discover what he has no idea about…”
Continuing, Kingdom Men said: “that is the issue all of us – families,
churches, communities, governments and
even the international agencies have yet to grasp; it is the one issue which,
if we were to face squarely and urgently, will reduce and ultimately remove
other problems.”
We recognise, says the ministry, that “men are the problem, and men are
the answer. We are fully aware that everywhere in the world today, men are
responsible directly and vicariously for ALL the social, political and economic
challenges mankind face – through their actions or omissions as men, husbands,
brothers, fathers and leaders. That is the reason for our existence.
The ministry further stated that the acute awareness of this situation “is
the rationale for all our activities, including but not limited to the Fix
the Men, Fix Nigeria Initiative, which
was formally launched at a small media event on International Men’s Day
2014 (November 19) with the hashtag #fixthemenfixNigeria
and #fixthemenfixthenations. That initiative is designed to redirect the
attention of all concerned to the disease, in order to reduce the focus on the
symptoms.
Among its objectives is to step up public campaigns to draw attention to the need for the nations, beginning with our country, Nigeria, to pay serious attention to the spiritual health and psychological make-up of the men; and the contribution of social, economic and cultural pressures to the status quo.
Among its objectives is to step up public campaigns to draw attention to the need for the nations, beginning with our country, Nigeria, to pay serious attention to the spiritual health and psychological make-up of the men; and the contribution of social, economic and cultural pressures to the status quo.
In this connection, Kingdom Men noted with enthusiasm the role being
played in Nigeria by an NGO known as Voices for Change (V4C), which has
undertaken a research project and published a report titled: Being a Man in
Nigeria, and continues to engage with men’s groups across the country including
the ministry.
Asserting that a lot more effort is required at all levels to rethink
strategies for comprehensively turning around the social, political and economic
conditions of our nation; Kingdom Men recommended the following:
“That men and men issues begin to receive the same attention that women
and children are getting including instituting a UN-recognised International
Day for Men, since the existing privately instituted one, (November 19), is
hardly ever noticed;
“That governments, donor agencies, corporate bodies under their
corporate social responsibility schemes and private foundations seriously
consider funding studies on Men issues and provide financial support for ministries
like ours in the pursuit of our mandates; so that, together with others, we can
refocus on Men; restore them to positive masculinity thus reawakening in them
the innate ability to be real men who manifest as better husbands and fathers;
better sons and brothers and ultimately better community and national leaders.”
Kingdom Men is fully persuaded that these are the cost-effective and
sure-fire ways to end
gender-based violence as well as virtually all other social, economic and
political problems because only MEN who get their identity right and who are
well-equipped to handle external pressures, can create a societal ambience for
women to fulfil their destinies and contribute their immeasurably high quota to
lifting the nation – without hindrance.”

KINGDOM MEN'S LEADERSHIP RETREAT COMMUNIQUE
KINGDOM MEN had a Leadership Retreat last weekend in Lagos. At the end of the six-sessions of teaching, prayers and worship, a 10-point Communique on the state of our nation and the role of men in it was issued. The programme, ironically, held at the Women's Development Centre, Ogba, Agege, Lagos, Nigeria.
The Communique signed by the ministry's Chief Vision Steward, REMI AKANO reads:
COMMUNIQUE
AT THE END OF A TWO-DAY LEADERSHIP RETREAT
KINGDOM MEN (KMEN), A
MINISTRY TO MEN
HELD
BETWEEN FRIDAY FEBRUARY 21 AND SATURDAY 22, 2014
AT
THE WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, OGBA, IKEJA, LAGOS
At
the end of the two-day intensive and interactive session which featured prayer,
praise and worship, six sessions of teaching and discussions on issues
affecting men, the home, society, the church, our nation and the larger global
trends concerning manhood and Christ-likeness, the leadership of KINGDOM MEN gathered
for the programme observed, concluded and declared as follows (see below):
1. That as Nigeria
marks its centenary as a country it is indisputable that the nation is NOT
fulfilling its destiny in the comity of nations in spite of the vast human,
natural and other resources God has placed at our disposal;

2. That the problem is that of MEN because men are accountable to God for the running of His Kingdom here on earth as is clear from the Bible book of Genesis and have therefore been predominant in leadership globally;3. That the nation therefore has a “men problem”. In other words, men are the problem and men are the solution. So, if we get it right with the men, Nigeria (and the world at large) would be a better place for all to live in;

| Ade Situ |
It is in pursuit of the objective of filling this identified gap and to join hands with others of like minds so that the men in Nigeria might begin to take godly charge of the society that God originally committed to their hand that KINGDOM MEN has been founded;
6. KINGDOM MEN believes that Jesus Christ is the best example of leadership – dependable, faithful, other-centred, strong, effective, humble and love-driven, and therefore we are committed to help raise and disciple Chirstlike men;

7. KMEN plans to pursue this goal through a Bible study, accountability and discipleship programme, regular men’s events, including Breakfast meetings, luncheons/dinners targeted at special groups such as legislators and other politicians, the military, academics etc and conferences featuring national and international ministers and leaders of character;
8. In this
connection, the first international men’s conference, KINGDOM MEN MEGA SUMMIT
is planned to hold between May 8 and 10, 2014 in Lagos and it shall feature Texas,
USA-based Rev Dr Larry Titus, a global mentor of men who has been in ministry
for over 50 years and whose Kingdom Global Ministries runs an effective Men’s Discipleship programme. There will be other
notable speakers.

KMEN
invites all churches, ministries and all men and women who of goodwill to
partner with us in the pursuit of these Spirit-driven, God-glorifying and
society-building goals.
